Kamda Ekadashi

Kamda Ekadashi

Kamda Ekadashi is observed on Chaitra Sud 11. This fasting day grants wishes and removes sins. In the Varaha Purana, Vyas Muni narrates the story of Lalit and Lalita. In the city of Bhogavati, ruled by Naagraj King Pundarik, grand celebrations were held in the royal palace for victories and auspicious events.

During one such gathering, poet Lalit was asked to sing for the king. While performing, he made mistakes because his mind was distracted, thinking of Lalita, a dancer he loved deeply. When King Pundarik learned the reason for Lalit's errors, he cursed him to become a demon for allowing his mind to be clouded by attachment.

Under the curse, Lalit transformed into a frightening demon. Heartbroken, Lalita accompanied him into the forest, searching for a way to remove the curse. One dawn, they reached the ashram of Rushyashrung Muni on a mountain peak. After offering respects, Lalita tearfully explained their misfortune.

The muni compassionately replied, “O Devi, today is Chaitra Sud Ekadashi. Observing this Ekadashi vrat will free you from all suffering. Perform the vrat today with devotion and offer the fruits of your fasting to your husband tomorrow. This will release him from the curse.”

With full faith, Lalita observed the Ekadashi fast. The next day, she performed a sacred yagna and offered the merit of her fasting to Lalit. Instantly, the demon form disappeared and Lalit regained his original divine and handsome appearance. The couple lived happily thereafter.

The vrat of Kamda Ekadashi destroys evil, removes poverty, fulfills heartfelt desires, and guides devotees toward spiritual growth. Those who observe this Ekadashi sincerely receive great blessings and joy.
